Upon Atlantis' retirement, it was given the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Center, replacing the mockup that had been on display. A dedicated building was constructed to house the shuttle. Atlanis is displayed as if 'in-flight', with its payload bay doors open, allowing visitors to see the interior. The shuttle is also pitched at an angle to allow easier viewing.
